Instructions for Ushers
Thank you for volunteering to usher for worship!
Your friendly, welcoming, and helpful attitude is very important, and can create
a truly positive experience for those that attend worship at First Presbyterian.
BEFORE WORSHIP:
• Arrive 30 minutes before worship begins.
• Distribute the offering plates on the first row of pews of each section.
• Ushers should be stationed at both the main entrance of the church and the eastside entrance as well. This may not be possible at all times if there are only two ushers, but do the best you can and keep an eye open for people entering from the eastside entryway.
• Hand out service bulletins and greet people.Welcome people, especially visitors.Show visitors where the restrooms, water fountain, and coffee are located.Be helpful and courteous.
• CHOOSE OTHERS to help collect the offering (kids like to help!).There should be TWO PEOPLE PER SECTION for a TOTAL OF EIGHT PEOPLE (this number may include yourself and any co-ushers, however). Give kids that help an “usher” sticker before worship.
DURING WORSHIP:
• Welcome latecomers. If needed, locate a place for them to sit and make them feel comfortable.
• During the opening songs of praise, collect any prayer request cards by walking through each aisle. When done, hand them to the Pastor.
• Collect the offering along with those that agreed to help before worship.
AFTER WORSHIP:
• Tear out any filled-in sheets from the red friendship folders. Put them in the wire basket on the church office counter.
Thank you for your joyful service in the name of Christ!
