Worship at First Pres is based upon a historic practice revealed in the New Testament:

Gathering: songs, prayers, confession.

Proclaiming the Word: Scripture, children's time, message, and a song that directly reflects the day's scripture.

Responding to the Word: Prayers, offering.

Meal: Being nourished and fed by the bread of life.

Sending: Songs, commissioning, blessings.

Presbyterian worship is often described as liturgical, which literally means 'the work of the people.' In this sense, worship itself is an offering to God. We value style, ritual, and tradition as valuable avenues to connect with God, nothing more, nothing less. We also value the rhythms of life, so we celebrate church seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost.

Worship is treasuring God. It is the great essential of spiritual fitness. Worship celebrates God's availability in Christ. Our worship is liturgical, Christ-centered, and Bible-focused.

Morning Prayer at 8am is intimate, meditative, and shorter in length than our late worship. Worship at 10:15am (9:30am during the summer) is a blended service that includes a children's message, musical ensembles, hymns, praise songs, and global music that mixes traditional and contempoary elements. The scripture and sermon is the same at both services. The Lord's Supper is celebrated monthly at both services.

Parents are always welcome to attend with their children. If you prefer, alternate care is available for children birth to three years of age at late worship only.

During worship, every child may use a Children's Worship Bag, which includes materials that reinforce the lessons of Sunday's scripture--or it can provide an opportunity to just "doodle"!
