Session Report:
Sheryl attended the October Session Meeting but there was no agenda
for the Session Report. It
was not presented at the Deacon meeting.
Below is the report that I was prepared to give.
In brief, there was discussion on the Staff
Appreciation week, which will be November 14th through the 21st
with a reception for the staff on November 21st.
There has been a posting for the position of the Youth Leader that
will expire on November 15th.
The budget and stewardship campaign was discussed.

Organization using the gym for practice.

renovation and the use of the church during this time period.
There was a request for baptism for November 21st
from Thomas’s who would like to baptize their youngest son, Daniel.
There was discussion on the timing of Stewardship and
when fundraising should be done. Oleg
is to respond to this next meeting so fundraisers will not interfere with
the Stewardship campaign.
Frank discussed the sound system and that it needs to
be up-dated.
Committee Reports:

Women from the church attended lunch and a movie.
On December 4th, there will be a Holiday Brunch at Judy Wallace’s
house. Martha and Judy took
Pricilla Foos and Kaye Dreyer out after church one day.
Compassion Committee – Claire –Nothing to
report.
Assistance Committee – Jac – Jac was
absent but there was nothing to report per Craig.
Jac is recovering from hip replacement surgery.
Events Committee – Craig – Deacon Festival
Recap. See Old Business.
Unfinished (Old) Business: Recap of the Deacon Festival – The parish baskets went over
well. Some of the people in
the parishes responded differently but most were receptive.
The quality of the items was very good and the items in the live
auction brought in $2600.00. The auctioneer did a great job and the entertainment was
wonderful. There were
complaints about the loud music that will need to be worked on.
The events flowed well and in a timely manner. The silent auction closing and relaying of bid winners went
exceptionally well this year. Overall,
it was a great success and enjoyed by those that attended.
Sheryl made a motion to show our appreciation to the auctioneer and
Don Wallace by getting them gift certificates for their donation of time.
Mary seconded the motion and all board members were in favor.
The motion carried and Claire was going to purchase the gift
certificates.
New Business:
Jody York was present to discuss the forming of a coalition of 6
community churches for the benefit of benevolent giving.
Also as a part of the coalition would be His Hands Food Ministry,
The Roundup Program at United Power and Almost Home.
The 6 participating churches would be St. Augustine Catholic, the
Nazarene, First Baptist on Highway 7, The Worship Center, Zion Lutheran
and the First Presbyterian. The reason for forming this coalition is to screen benevolent
requests because they have gotten to be so great. Terry Moore from Almost Home has agreed to screen the
requests and handle them. They
would provide reports back to the participants in the coalition. The next coalition meeting is December 1st.
Gladys made a motion that the First Presbyterian Deacons be a part
of this coalition. Martha seconded the motion and all board members were in
favor. The expected start
date will be January. At this
time Jody will be the liaison for the Deacons to the coalition.
There was discussion on our next meeting that will
take place in December. Ideas
were thrown out as what to give the shut-ins and grieving members of our
congregation this year. We
will check into poinsettia plants. We
will need approximately 25 to 30 plants.
Sheryl will check with Jody and Horiuchi Brothers on costs.
New Officers will be elected at the December meeting
when the new Deacons will be at the meeting.
Prayer Requests:
For Pricilla who is doing radiation and Gladys will have
cataract surgery.
Closing Devotion:
By Claire Scherer
Adjournment:
Mary made motion to adjourn and Claire seconded.
Next Meeting:
December 11, 2004 at 9:00 a.m.
December Deacon is Martha Cosby.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sheryl A. Johnson
