were also available at the meeting. Gladys
made a motion to accept the May Minutes.
Mary seconded the motion. All
board members in favor. The

Treasurer’s Report: Claire went over the May and June Treasurer’s report.
It was discussed to put a cap on the amount of money to give out
due to several requests and the low funds we have.
Claire also said that she would need to purchase grocery coupons
again and that Safeway had agreed to give double what they had been
contributing. Claire made a
motion to set the cap of $75 per request.
Gladys seconded the motion. All
board members were in favor. Only
one request per calendar year will be allowed per person. Caroline made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s reports.
Pat seconded the motion and all were in favor.
The Treasurer’s Reports was approved.
Session Report:
There was no June Session Meeting.
Committee Reports:
Communications Committee – Martha – Cancer
Walk was very successful. The
church raised about $2500. Martha
& Caroline attended “Women of Faith” and it was very
inspirational. An idea for
August may be to attend the musical “Menopause”.
Martha will be entertaining some young couples for a dessert
luncheon.
Compassion Committee – Claire – It was
discussed that the phone tree really needs to be used to notify all
deacons of activities or funerals that may be happening if there is no
church before then. We have
had the Don Dreyer, Gaede’s Daughter – Nancy and Wanda Phillips
funerals. For Dreyer’s and
Phillips’s funeral, the deacons also put together a meal.
Claire was going to talk to Diane LeVere and Linda Nudd to clarify
the role the deacons should play in the receptions following a funeral.
Assistance Committee – Jac – There was
nothing to report and no requests for assistance.
Events Committee – Sheryl – Preparations
for the Deacon Festival are underway.
Additional information regarding the Festival is under new
business.
Unfinished (Old) Business: No old business.
New Business:
In regards to the survey that was done a while back, the deacons
needed to discuss member retention. Are
we doing what we should to retain members as far as sending letters to our
parishes, contacting them for certain and special events?
There needs to be Deacon accountability.
Also the tracking of attendance was discussed also.
Deacon Festival was the next item for discussion.
A memo for the First Pres will be submitted by Sheryl.
I will also work on the letters and get them sent out in the next
couple of weeks. Items for
the Festival auction need to be a craft, baked, service type items,
tickets or weekend get-a-ways as long as they are new items.
We will not accept garage sale items.
We discussed coming up with a raffle item.
Claire will work on a design for a raffle ticket.
There will be a Live and Silent auction again this year along with
entertainment. The Deacons
will contact their parishes and other committees of the church and ask
them to put together a basket or item for the auction.
Prayer Requests:
For Doris Reynolds, Caroline’s Uncle in AZ who has cancer –
Bill Altcok, Jerry for cataract surgery, Nancy Fletcher and Harlan, Kaye
Dreyer, George Phillips and Robin Trujillo and family, Miriam & Bill
Gaede, Chandra Acklam, Jac’s brother-in-law Bruce who is in India and
Don Ayers who may have to have surgery.
Closing Devotion:
By Gladys Eckman
Adjournment:
Martha moved to adjourn and Claire seconded.
Next Meeting:
August 9, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.
August Deacon is Craig LeVere.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sheryl A. Johnson
