Secretary’s Report:
It was moved and seconded
that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted as corrected; the
plant sale dates listed in the previous minutes were corrected to read
May 14th and May 15th. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report:
It was moved and seconded
that the treasurer’s report be approved as printed. Motion carried.
Committee Reports:
Communications: The month’s “Ladies Day
Out” will be a salad luncheon on Saturday, April 23rd. There
will be no May event.
Compassion:
The recent deaths of Doris
Reynolds and Kathy Layton prompted several discussions.
The first involved the
communications process for letting all the deacons and their parish
members know about deaths in a timely way. Claire and Judy will ask Jody
York to notify one of them and they will notify Martha so that the phone
tree may be activated.
The second discussion was about
serving meals to the families of the deceased. Meals, which are to be
provided in the family’s home, are the responsibility of that parish
deacon. Diann Levere and Linda Nudd are coordinating meals served as part
of a church reception.
Lastly we discussed what
action, if any, the Deacons should take in the event of the death of a
church member. Send flowers? Contribute to a memorial fund? After much
discussion, it was moved and seconded that a $30.00 memorial contribution
be made. Motion carried. (A contribution will be made to the Euterpean
Society in memory of Kathy Layton, and to First Presbyterian Church of
Brighton in memory of Doris Reynolds.)
Assistance:
No report.
Events:
No report.
Unfinished Business:
*The
Maundy Thursday: the offering totaled $440.
*Plant Sale: Gladys has talked
to Kirk Horiuchi at Horiuchi Brothers Greenhouse. He told her that there
had been a 5% increase in prices over last year. We reviewed the orders
from last year and decided to offer the following items: pansies,
impatiens, snapdragons, petunias, hanging baskets and pots. Dot will make
flyers and order forms and finalize details with Kirk. Orders could be
started as early as this Sunday, April 17th.
*Deacons Auction: We looked
over the list of basket ideas and each deacon was given the chance to
select one or more of them. We will ask our parish members to make
contributions based on the theme of our basket(s). Claire will also
compile a list of the items that seemed to generate the most interest in
the 2004 auction.
New Business:
None
Pastor’s Report:

Session Report:
Judy attended the March Session
meeting. Highlights of her report included the following:
